What Did Supriya Sule's Delegation Achieve in Ethiopia?

Addis Ababa, June 1 (NationPress) - The All-party delegation, spearheaded by Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP), engaged in productive discussions with senior Ethiopian legislators, dignitaries, and representatives from the African Union Commission. This initiative is part of India's strategy under Operation Sindoor to strengthen ties with partner nations and assert India's 'New Normal' stance against cross-border terrorism, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy and a united political front for national interests.

The Indian Embassy in Ethiopia released a statement on social media platform X, noting: "The multi-party Indian Parliamentary delegation visited Ethiopia from May 30 to June 1, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack, resulting in significant interactions and discussions with top Ethiopian lawmakers, dignitaries, and the African Union Commission."

According to the press statement, the delegation commenced its visit with a meeting with Adem Farah, Deputy Chairperson of the Prosperity Party, who holds the rank of Deputy Prime Minister. The delegation reaffirmed India's collective and resolute stance against terrorism in all its forms. The Members of Parliament shared insights on India's 'New Normal' regarding cross-border attacks, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach. Both parties reiterated their commitment to combat terrorism, with the Deputy PM condemning the recent terrorist acts and advocating for global cooperation.

Subsequently, the delegation engaged with the African Union, exchanging perspectives on counter-terrorism strategies. Notably, the African Union has a well-defined structure for identifying terrorist acts, fostering more focused collaboration between India and the African Union to combat terrorism globally.

Following this, meetings with Tagesse Chafo, the Speaker of the House of People's Representatives of Ethiopia, explored avenues for strengthening legislative cooperation between India and Ethiopia in promoting a message of zero-tolerance toward terrorism. The Speaker expressed solidarity with India and stressed the necessity for an urgent, coordinated approach to tackle terrorism.

During discussions, delegation members highlighted the persistent challenge of cross-border terrorism and efforts to create social discord within India. They noted that Operation Sindoor, a response by India, was well-calibrated, targeted, and proportionate, showcasing India's commitment to counter-terrorism without escalating tensions. The Ethiopian representatives reiterated their own zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, condemning the violence inflicted on innocent civilians on April 22, and expressed their readiness to collaborate in confronting this global menace.

The day concluded with a productive interaction with the Indian community in Ethiopia, where the delegation acknowledged the significant contributions of the diaspora and reaffirmed India's dedication to its community. They praised the diaspora for embodying the Indian values of unity, pluralism, tolerance, and the civilizational principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', as well as for their role in resisting divisive forces threatening India's social cohesion.

After a successful visit to Qatar, the all-party delegation led by Supriya Sule includes BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur, and V. Muraleedharan, Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu from the Telugu Desam Party, Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney from the Aam Aadmi Party, and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin.

In response to the embassy's statement, Supriya Sule expressed on X: "They reaffirmed India's steadfast commitment to combat cross-border terrorism and encouraged the Indian diaspora to propagate this message throughout Ethiopia. #OperationSindoor #zerotolerance."

"They highlighted India's zero tolerance for terrorism and conveyed a clear message that terror and dialogue cannot coexist; blood and water cannot flow together," she added.

"The delegation presented a united front for India, detailing Pakistan's involvement in the horrific terror attacks in Pahalgam on April 22 and how Operation Sindoor effectively dismantled terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir," Sule stated.
