Suva, September 15 (NationPress) India and Fiji engaged in discussions regarding collaboration in the field of maritime security, capacity enhancement, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) during the visit of the INS Kadmatt to the Port of Suva for a three-day goodwill mission to the South Pacific nation.
According to a statement released on X, the High Commission of India in Fiji announced, "Cdr Kutuhal Limaye, Commanding Officer of INS Kadmatt, met with Mr. Mason Smith, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs today. Accompanying him was Capt Rohit Raymond Kattoju, India’s Defence Adviser to Fiji. The discussions included maritime security collaboration, HADR, and capacity development."
INS Kadmatt also organized an 'Open Day' in Suva, allowing visitors to board the ship. Guests had the opportunity to interact with the crew and learn about India's naval expertise, fostering a people-to-people connection between India and Fiji.
The Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare corvette, INS Kadmatt, docked in Suva after a three-day port visit at Indonesia's Surabaya, further solidifying the friendship, trust, and interoperability between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL).
During the Indonesian visit, professional and cultural exchanges were conducted to strengthen maritime collaboration and mutual understanding between India and Indonesia. Notable activities included professional interactions and cross-deck visits. The crew even engaged in a combined yoga session onboard and a friendly volleyball match with TNI AL personnel, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and cooperation.
"As part of community outreach, the ship welcomed members of the Indian diaspora from Indonesia, giving them a chance to tour the ship and engage with the crew. Additionally, courtesy visits with senior naval leadership reinforced the commitment of both nations to collaborate for a secure and stable maritime environment in the region," stated the Ministry of Defence.
"The visit of INS Kadmatt reaffirmed the Indian Navy's role as a preferred security partner in the region and strengthened the enduring maritime partnership between India and Indonesia under the shared vision of 'Partnership Across Sea,'" it concluded.
