Tokyo, Dec 19 (NationPress) The Indian Ambassador-designate to Japan, Nagma Mallick, met with the former Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, to explore avenues for enhancing the special strategic and global partnership between India and Japan.

According to a post by the Indian Embassy in Japan on X, "Ambassador-designate Ms. Nagma M. Mallick called on H. E. Mr. Fumio Kishida, former Prime Minister of Japan. They discussed methods to bolster the Special Strategic and Global Partnership and other topics of mutual concern.”

Fumio Kishida held the office of Prime Minister from November 10, 2021, to October 1, 2024.

The relationship between India and Japan was upgraded to a 'Global Partnership' in 2000, a 'Strategic and Global Partnership' in 2006, and a 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' in 2014. The defense and security collaboration is a key component of the bilateral relations.

Earlier that day, Nagma Mallick also met with Hiraku Ikeda, the Mayor of Urakawa, expressing gratitude for his support of the Indian community in the locality.

On Monday, the Indian diplomat also met with the Speaker of Japan's House of Representatives, Fukushiro Nukaga, to discuss various facets of their bilateral relations.

On November 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a bilateral dialogue with his Japanese counterpart, Sanae Takaichi, during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, focusing on enhancing cooperation in areas such as innovation, defense, and talent mobility.
