The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlights that the defence and security partnership is a crucial aspect of India-Japan bilateral relations. Recently, defense exchanges have intensified, driven by shared strategic interests and a mutual commitment to maintaining peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region.
Last month, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, during the G7 Foreign Ministers Meeting held in France.
EAM Jaishankar remarked on X, "Always nice to meet my friend FM Toshimitsu Motegi, this time on the sidelines of G7 FMM." Additionally, on March 6, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri convened with Sadamasa Oue, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, focusing on bolstering defence technology and economic security.
According to MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, "Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had a fruitful discussion with Sadamasa Oue on enhancing the defence technology and economic security aspects of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership." In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his congratulations to Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi following her success in the House of Representatives election. Modi expressed hope that their partnership would continue to flourish.
In his message, PM Modi stated, "Congratulations, Sanae Takaichi, on your landmark victory in the elections to the House of Representatives! Our Special Strategic and Global Partnership is essential for promoting global peace, stability, and prosperity. I am confident that under your guidance, we will elevate the India-Japan friendship to new heights," as he posted on X.
