Thimphu, April 9 (NationPress) Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal Khattar engaged in discussions with Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay on Thursday, focusing on enhancing energy security, hydropower collaboration, as well as cultural and interpersonal connections between the two nations.

In a statement on X, Khattar mentioned, "During my visit to Bhutan, I paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay ji. We discussed methods to further reinforce the profound historical, cultural, and personal ties between India and Bhutan. Our relationship is characterized by deep mutual trust, goodwill, and respect."
"The shared spiritual heritage and the warmth of our personal relationships have defined this special partnership. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji's 'Neighbourhood First' policy, the Indian government is dedicated to collaborating with Bhutan across all levels," he added.
Earlier that day, Khattar arrived in Bhutan for a four-day visit.
Bhutan's Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Lyonpo Gem Tshering, alongside India's Ambassador to Bhutan, Sandeep Arya, welcomed Minister Khattar at the airport, as per statements from Khattar's office.
A statement from the Ministry of Power highlighted, "This visit emphasizes our shared dedication to enhancing cooperation in clean energy, improving cross-border power trade, and aiding Bhutan's socio-economic growth. Hydropower collaboration remains fundamental to India–Bhutan relations, providing mutual advantages through sustainable energy generation and strengthened economic ties."
On Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)'s Additional Secretary (North), Munu Mahawar, met with Bhutan's Foreign Minister, Lyonpo DN Dhungyel, to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations across various sectors.

We appreciated the trust that underpins India-Bhutan ties and exchanged views on expanding our bilateral partnership in various mutual priority sectors," stated the Indian Embassy in Bhutan on X.
On February 18, PM Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan and Indian PM Modi reviewed the advancements in bilateral cooperation across several key sectors, including energy, connectivity, development partnerships, and people-to-people connections during the India-AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
The MEA reported that the two leaders supported the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for inclusive and human-centric progress and agreed to further enhance cooperation in AI and digital technologies.
They also reiterated their commitment to work closely to fortify the India-Bhutan partnership, which is anchored in trust, goodwill, and mutual respect.
