New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) On Saturday, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal showcased significant accomplishments by the ministry from the past week. This includes advancements in trade agreements, recognition of innovation, and initiatives aimed at boosting exports.
Celebrating the second anniversary of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), the minister noted that the agreement is starting to produce tangible results, exemplified by Iceland's $30 million investment in Maharashtra’s fisheries sector.
“This agreement has laid down an investment framework with a legally binding commitment of $100 billion over 15 years, which could generate 1 million direct jobs,” Goyal stated on X.
Furthermore, the National Intellectual Property (IP) Awards were distributed to honor the contributions of scientists, innovators, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and academic institutions, including IITs, for their role in fostering innovation-driven growth in India.
In a nod to women entrepreneurs, Goyal mentioned that 11 female MSME leaders received the FICCI FLO National MSME Awards for their outstanding performance.
With approximately 65% of developed markets now encompassed under India’s free trade agreements (FTAs), there are increasing opportunities for domestic manufacturers to integrate into global supply chains.
Additionally, a meeting was conducted with members of the Consultative Committee on Promotion of Export of Marine Products, focusing on enhancing value addition, bolstering global competitiveness, upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with standards.
Regarding exports, Goyal highlighted that the inaugural shipment of 25 metric tonnes of GI-tagged Joha rice from Assam has been dispatched to both the United Kingdom and Italy.
“Previously, Joha rice has been exported to Vietnam and five countries in the Middle East,” he added.
Moreover, Goyal engaged in discussions with Patrik Jonsson, Executive Vice President and President of Lilly International, USA, regarding India’s growth, Eli Lilly and Company’s expanding operations and investment in India, and initiatives to further strengthen the 'Make in India for the world' concept.
On the same day, a virtual interaction with Harry Theoharis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, took place, where they explored avenues to deepen India-Greece collaboration in trade, investment, tourism, maritime connectivity, and other areas of mutual interest.
