In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared on X, “To bolster Afghanistan’s healthcare initiatives, India has sent 73 tonnes of life-saving medicines, vaccines, and essential supplements to Kabul, underscoring our ongoing support for the Afghan people.”
Just last week, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met with Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi, Afghanistan's Industry and Commerce Minister, in New Delhi to explore avenues for enhancing trade, connectivity, and interpersonal relations between the two nations.
During this meeting, EAM Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s dedication to the progress and welfare of the Afghan populace. He stated, “It was a pleasure to meet with Industry and Commerce Minister Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi in New Delhi this evening. We deliberated on strengthening our trade, connectivity, and people-to-people links while reiterating India’s commitment to Afghanistan’s development and welfare,” as noted in his post on X.
Earlier this month, India also provided food supplies to families affected by the earthquake that hit Balkh, Samangan, and Baghlan provinces.
“In a show of support for the Afghan people, India has delivered food items to those impacted by the earthquake,” the MEA announced on X.
This assistance followed a devastating earthquake of magnitude 6.3 that resulted in more than 20 fatalities and numerous injuries in northern Afghanistan.
On October 10, India sent additional food provisions to Afghanistan as part of its humanitarian efforts.
“India continues to deliver food supplies as part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance for those affected by the earthquake,” Jaiswal stated on X.
On the same day, EAM Jaishankar held discussions with his Afghan counterpart, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, in New Delhi. They talked about India’s support for Afghanistan’s development, bilateral trade, territorial integrity, independence, and enhancing people-to-people interactions and capacity-building, among other topics.
EAM Jaishankar emphasized that Muttaqi's visit marked a significant advancement in bilateral relations and announced the provision of five ambulances to Afghanistan.
