Washington/New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) With the ongoing developments affecting regional security in the Middle East, India is urged to take a comprehensive approach and realize that European strategic autonomy is fundamentally constrained in comparison to its own capabilities.

In the process of strengthening its economic ties, India must remain realistic about the likelihood of continental Europe stepping in should its independent foreign policy provoke dissatisfaction from Anglo-American circles, as highlighted in a recent report.

“The incidents of February 28, 2026, illustrate how unchecked US influence can threaten stability across regions. From a security standpoint, New Delhi must now proactively consider the potential for ongoing American intervention in its internal matters, both covertly and overtly, reminiscent of France's actions shortly after Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2025,” stated a report from the Vivekananda International Foundation based in New Delhi.

“The current administration in the US seems intent on imposing its will on others, thereby necessitating enhanced counterintelligence measures to monitor all US activities, official and unofficial, including media and NGO engagements,” it continued.

The report indicated that such unilateral tendencies were evident even prior to the Trump era, with India facing undue scrutiny from Anglo-American narratives during former President Joe Biden's administration regarding the deaths of Khalistani individuals abroad.

“Individuals labeled as terrorists in India were recast as ‘dissidents’ in Western narratives. Similar to Iran, where a staged endorsement of US actions was recently publicized, critics of India were given a platform to tarnish its image,” it elaborated.

During the 2026 Munich Security Conference, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a speech that, despite its conciliatory tone, raised eyebrows. His characterization of the US as a ‘child of Europe’ was noted.

“However, analysts pointed out the exuberant praise Rubio offered for Europe’s history of colonialism, resource extraction, and a racially-driven Western superiority narrative. He appeared to present Europe with a stark choice: align with the US to restore Western dominance or face irrelevance,” it mentioned.

“This rhetoric propagated a notion of white supremacy over non-white populations in their own territories. It was not merely xenophobic sentiment within the US borders but a reflection of neo-imperialism and colonial exploitations on a global scale, resembling the aggressive diplomacy of the 19th century,” it noted.

The report concluded, “As Europe grapples with energy dependence on the US through a costly trade agreement—one that risks substituting reliance on Russian gas with American energy—there may be limited options for Brussels or other EU capitals.”
