New Delhi, Nov 27 (NationPress) Para-Olympic athlete Bhavnaben Chaudhary has shared her excitement following the decision to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

Describing it as a landmark and emotional event for Indian sports, she remarked, “This is a proud moment for India. After two decades, we are once again set to host the Commonwealth Games. This occasion will bolster New India’s global identity. For the youth athletes throughout the nation, it is truly an honour that the 2030 Commonwealth Games will occur in India.”

Bhavnaben highlighted the enduring commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards sports and athletes in the country. “The Prime Minister has consistently championed sports and uplifted the spirits of young athletes. In 2010, India showcased remarkable performances at the Commonwealth Games, and by 2030, we will excel even further,” Bhavnaben Chaudhary stated in an interview with IANS.

The organizing committee for Amdavad 2030 plans to collaborate with Commonwealth Sport and international federations to establish a schedule of 15–17 sports, in line with the recent Sports Programme Review. Additional disciplines, including cricket T20, shooting, hockey, wrestling, judo, rugby sevens, and 3x3 basketball, are under consideration, alongside proposals for two new sports from the host.

Under Prime Minister Modi’s vision, Ahmedabad has evolved into a premier sports destination, equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, advanced training environments, and world-class facilities. Sports experts believe that the Games will elevate India’s standing in the global sports arena while also fostering tourism, job creation, and economic advancement.

At the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Gandhinagar, athletes are ramping up their preparations, motivated by a collective sense of pride and opportunity.

Kabaddi player Somveer Mehra expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister, calling this announcement a pivotal moment: “It brings immense joy that after two decades, India will host the Commonwealth Games again. Athletes from various countries will come here, and we will have a lot to learn from them.”

Mehra, who has previously brought home gold for India, is optimistic about the 2030 Games: “We are training rigorously for the 2030 Games. Having won gold for India before, we will strive to make our nation proud once more,” shared Somveer Mehra, the Kabaddi player.

Young kabaddi athlete Sakshi, practicing at the SAI center in Gandhinagar, stated that the announcement has invigorated young players throughout Gujarat. “It is a source of joy that India will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Ahmedabad now boasts the largest SAI center, providing world-class amenities to budding athletes. India has made tremendous strides in sports. Competing in the Games on our home turf will be a privilege,” she said.

She also acknowledged PM Modi’s outlook on sports: “The Prime Minister has always regarded sports through a supportive and visionary lens. His involvement in securing the Commonwealth Games for India has been instrumental.”
