Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) India Post is preparing to unveil a new express service that will facilitate the delivery of parcels, consignments, and articles within 24 hours, as announced by the government on Monday.
The Department of Posts (DoP) is set to introduce the '24 Speed Post' service on Tuesday (March 17), guaranteeing next-day delivery for urgent and time-sensitive shipments, according to the Ministry of Communications.
This service will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani at the Rang Bhawan Auditorium in Akashvani Bhawan at 12:30 PM, with the attendance of senior officials from the Department of Posts.
As stated by the ministry, the '24 Speed Post' service aims to enhance express logistics across major metropolitan areas.
Initially, this service will be accessible in six metropolitan cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
In addition, the DoP will offer both the '24 Speed Post' and '48 Speed Post' services, ensuring delivery timelines of D+1 and D+2 days respectively, supported by dedicated processing windows and priority air transport.
The features will include OTP-based secure delivery and end-to-end tracking with SMS notifications to keep customers updated on their consignments' status.
Business clients will benefit from a 'Buy Now Pay Later' (BNPL) option, complimentary pickups for bulk orders, API integration, and centralized billing.
The services will also come with a money-back guarantee in case of delays, further enhancing India Post’s premium express delivery offerings, as per the ministry.
Earlier this month, Pemmasani mentioned in a written statement in the Lok Sabha that the DoP is implementing various initiatives in the parcel and e-commerce sector to evolve into a key public logistics organization and enhance services nationwide.
These initiatives include modernizing the parcel processing and delivery framework to improve speed, reliability, and customer satisfaction through standardized systems across the country.
“Last-mile delivery has been reinforced through Nodal Delivery Centres for mechanized and dedicated parcel delivery,” he informed the Parliament.
“Under the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) 2.0 initiative, real-time delivery updates, OTP-based delivery, and API integration with e-commerce partners have been implemented,” the minister stated.
