Florida, April 11 (NationPress) - US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor stated on Saturday that Washington and New Delhi are prepared to collaborate closely across essential sectors such as trade, defence, and energy.
Following his meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Florida, Gor shared on X, "It was a pleasure to host Vikram Misri tonight at Mar a Lago! From trade and defence to energy, India and the United States stand ready to work closely together in the months and years ahead."
This week, during Misri's meetings with senior US officials, India and the United States expanded their cooperation in areas like energy, critical technologies, and defence, indicating a stronger strategic alignment.
On the last day of his busy three-day schedule, energy cooperation was a key topic, highlighted by Misri's meeting with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
The Indian Embassy in Washington reported that Misri "called on Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Discussions centered around enhancing energy security, deepening bilateral energy trade, and exploring new opportunities to bolster the India-US Energy Partnership."
Gor emphasized the increasing collaboration in this sector, stating, "After India's historic passage of the SHANTI bill, we are ready to work together on civil nuclear initiatives, alongside efforts in coal gasification and US LPG exports."
In addition to energy, the discussions also covered emerging technologies and supply chains.
The US Department of Commerce noted, "This week, Under Secretary William Kimmitt and India's Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, convened to discuss advancing US-India cooperation on critical and emerging technologies, securing trusted supply chains, and exploring opportunities for US AI exports."
Misri also had a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the State Department, reviewing the "full bilateral agenda" for the upcoming year, which included high-level engagements between India and the US and ongoing regional developments across critical sectors such as trade, technology, defence, and energy, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Additionally, Misri met with senior White House officials, including leadership from the National Security Council.
According to the Indian Embassy, the discussions spanned topics of mutual strategic interest, including the Indian Ocean Strategic Venture and recent developments in West Asia.
Defence cooperation was also a significant aspect of the meetings.
Gor remarked, "The US Army and Indian Army will play a crucial role in strengthening defence ties."
He further noted that "defence collaboration between the US and India is on the rise, making both our nations safer and stronger," highlighting discussions on "defence sales of US equipment… and enhancing interoperability."
Misri attended a reception at India House hosted by India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, where he engaged with officials and stakeholders from across the US administration.
The Indian Embassy stated that he "interacted with friends and partners from across the US Administration, reaffirming the robust and vibrant bilateral partnership, and joint efforts to further strengthen ties."
The meetings illustrate the increasing convergence between New Delhi and Washington on strategic and economic priorities, including energy security, technology collaboration, and defence relationships.
Over the past decade, India and the United States have deepened their partnership through regular high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation across various sectors. The relationship has evolved into a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership encompassing defence, trade, technology, and people-to-people connections.
Both nations are also collaborating more closely in the Indo-Pacific, focusing on regional stability, resilient supply chains, and emerging global challenges.
