New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) Former G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant remains optimistic that trade relations between India and the United States will soon regain their former strength. This comes as discussions between the two nations are back on track after recent disputes over tariffs.
"Discussions have commenced, and I'm confident that everything will be resolved swiftly. I believe the trade relationship between India and the USA will flourish," Kant conveyed to IANS.
Recent tensions escalated when US President Donald Trump announced a 50 percent tariff on Indian exports. An initial 25 percent duty was implemented on August 7, followed by an additional charge on August 27.
Trump subsequently reassured that negotiations are progressing positively. "I am happy to report that India and the United States of America are continuing discussions to tackle trade barriers between our two nations," he stated on Truth Social.
Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "very good friend," Trump expressed eagerness to speak with him in the "upcoming weeks."
PM Modi responded via X, emphasizing the robustness of the bilateral relationship and his optimism regarding the ongoing negotiations. "India and the US are close allies and natural partners. I am confident that our trade talks will unlock the vast potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are dedicated to finalizing these discussions promptly. I also look forward to speaking with President Trump. Together, we will strive for a brighter and more prosperous future for our peoples," Modi wrote.
