Boston, May 14 (NationPress) A student of Indian descent from the United States tragically passed away after a fall from a balcony while in the Bahamas, just days ahead of his graduation.
Gaurav Jaisingh, who was enrolled at Bentley University in Massachusetts, was participating in an annual trip for seniors.
Sources indicate that Jaisingh hailed from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and was an active member of both the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and the South Asian Students Association at his university.
Bentley University expressed their sorrow over the loss through social media on Wednesday.
"It has been a challenging few days, and our community is grappling with the emotional impact of Gaurav Jaisingh '25's tragic passing. Our thoughts are with Gaurav's family and friends. We plan to pay tribute to Gaurav during the undergraduate commencement ceremony," the university shared in a post on X.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed the incident earlier, noting that Jaisingh fell from an upper floor balcony while with other roommates in his hotel room.
"On Sunday, an investigation was initiated regarding the circumstances of the death of an adult male from the United States on Paradise Island. Preliminary reports suggest that around 10:00 p.m., the victim was in his hotel room with other roommates when he accidentally fell from an upper-level balcony. He was later found unresponsive on a lower floor," stated the police in a press release.
The police mentioned that emergency medical services responded and transported the student to the hospital; however, he unfortunately passed away en route, and investigations into this incident are ongoing.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to Gaurav’s family, friends, and loved ones. While local authorities investigate, it seems that Gaurav accidentally fell from a balcony. We will provide more information as it becomes available while respecting his family's privacy," Bentley University conveyed in a statement to ABC News.
