Washington, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has voiced its serious concern regarding the mysterious disappearance of a 22-year-old Indian student from the University of California in Berkeley. Local officials are actively conducting search operations in the East Bay region.
"The Consulate General of India in San Francisco is greatly troubled by the vanishing of Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a post-graduate student at UC Berkeley, who originates from Karnataka," the Consulate stated on its social media account on Friday.
"We are in communication with the family and coordinating with local authorities to locate the student," it further conveyed.
As reported by Berkeley police, efforts to find the missing student are concentrated around Lake Anza. He was last seen on Tuesday.
According to the police, Saketh Sreenivasaiah was reportedly feeling distressed over a personal relationship.
His backpack, which contained his passport and laptop, was discovered left on a doorstep in the Park Hills area adjacent to Tilden Regional Park.
"We are collaborating with EBRPD (East Bay Regional Park District) to manage the ongoing search initiatives," the Berkeley Police Department stated.
"The community's assistance in locating him is still needed," they urged.
Police noted that Sreenivasaiah was last seen in the vicinity of the 1700 block of Dwight Way, close to McGee Avenue.
He is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.
Authorities have confirmed his Indian nationality.
Berkeley police are urging anyone with information about Sreenivasaiah to contact local law enforcement.
Sreenivasaiah is currently pursuing his Master's degree in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department at UC Berkeley, as per his LinkedIn profile.
Previously, he completed his undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, one of India's premier engineering schools.
This case has garnered attention from the Indian diplomatic mission in the United States, which is actively coordinating with authorities and the family during this ongoing search.
