Indore, June 8 (NationPress) The relatives of Sonam Raghuvanshi, an Indore native who journeyed to Shillong with her husband Raja Raghuvanshi for their honeymoon, have once again expressed significant concerns regarding the investigation handled by the Meghalaya authorities.

The family has reiterated their appeal to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a CBI investigation into the suspected murder of Raja and has urged for expedited efforts to locate the missing Sonam.

The newlywed duo, Raja Raghuvanshi (29) and Sonam Raghuvanshi (25), had traveled to Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district for their honeymoon but subsequently vanished under mysterious circumstances.

On June 2, Raja's body was found in a deep gorge close to a waterfall in the Sohra region, approximately 20 kilometers from their lodging. Sonam remains unaccounted for.

This shocking revelation has incited grief and suspicion within the family, who claim that the local authorities mishandled the case. Despite the time elapsed since the incident, the Meghalaya Police have yet to uncover any significant leads regarding Sonam's location.

On Saturday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that he had already urged the Home Minister to transfer the investigation to the CBI.

In an interview with IANS, Sonam's father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, stated, "The Chief Minister, our CM Mohan Yadav, has already sent help from Bhopal. Now it is in Home Minister Amit Shah's hands to send the CBI there as soon as possible. Without the CBI, progress will be stalled because the local police are gradually erasing all the evidence."

"If the police were competent and performing their duties effectively, the evidence wouldn't have been compromised, and both children would have been safe. How did items from the scooty — including the phone, raincoats, and others — end up near the corpse? If the murder occurred elsewhere, how did the murder weapon come to be located next to the body?" he questioned.

According to the family, CCTV footage and GPS data from the scooty suggested the presence of 3-4 individuals with the couple, yet the local police allegedly neglected to investigate these leads.

"Had they conducted a thorough investigation, our children would have been safe today," Singh lamented.

Expressing intense frustration, he added, "The police and administration in Meghalaya are doing nothing. One of their ministers even made a heartless remark, claiming such incidents are commonplace. If tourists visit a location, why has the government failed to guarantee proper security and guidance? Particularly in mountainous areas, there should be officials present to assist and protect tourists — yet there was no one."

The grieving family continues to demand urgent and credible intervention, asserting that without CBI involvement, justice for Raja and the safe return of Sonam will remain elusive.

Point of View

It is crucial to approach this sensitive case with the utmost seriousness. The family’s plea for a CBI investigation reflects a lack of confidence in local authorities, which raises important questions about investigative protocols. The safety of tourists should be prioritized, and this tragic incident highlights the need for better oversight in tourist areas.
