Rajouri, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch highway is experiencing a monumental transformation thanks to the Central Government’s dedicated infrastructure initiative, with construction activities advancing at an exceptional pace. These ambitious endeavors are designed to enhance connectivity, boost safety, and stimulate economic development in the strategically significant border districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the Manjakote area of Rajouri, the development of bypass roads, substantial bridges, dual-lane highways, and tunnels is in full motion. These extensive projects benefit from considerable central funding amounting to lakhs and crores of rupees, showcasing the government's commitment to upgrading border infrastructure.
For many years, Rajouri, being a vital border district, suffered from inadequate road infrastructure. Residents often had to endure long, arduous, and perilous journeys due to narrow passageways and regular traffic bottlenecks. With the upcoming completion of new infrastructure projects, the travel duration between Jammu and Poonch is anticipated to drop to approximately five hours, a remarkable enhancement from the previous 8-10 hour struggle.
Local inhabitants describe this transformation as a dream becoming reality, expressing disbelief at witnessing such modern road infrastructure in their area. Transitioning from a lack of basic roads to now experiencing state-of-the-art bridges and dual-lane highways, the change is regarded as revolutionary. Many residents have conveyed their deep appreciation to the Central Government for prioritizing border regions and establishing a robust foundation for growth, safety, and prosperity.

The National Highway 144A Megha project is poised to significantly benefit the dual border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Upon full completion, the enhanced highway will shorten travel time between Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu from nearly six hours to just three or four hours. Notably, the Rajouri–Jammu trip is expected to be reduced to approximately 2.5 hours.
This new road configuration will also decrease the distance by around 9.5 kilometers compared to current routes, directly aiding local commuters. Additionally, the project has created job opportunities for local youth, including engineers, equipment operators, drivers, helpers, and laborers. Improved connectivity is anticipated to promote tourism in the Pir Panjal region, further driving economic advancement and sustainable growth.
