The Western Naval Command's INS Teg wrapped up its port visit to Port Louis on Sunday, which was part of its operational mission in the South West Indian Ocean Region, according to official sources.
Throughout this deployment, INS Teg conducted joint surveillance operations over the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Mauritius, working closely with the Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG) ships and aircraft, thereby enhancing the strong maritime cooperation between India and Mauritius.
This collaborative endeavor reaffirmed the commitment to protect the global commons and combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, as stated in an official announcement.
During the visit, Captain Vikas Guleria, the Commanding Officer of INS Teg, met with notable government and military officials, including Rampersad Sooroojebally, the Commissioner of Police, Suresh Seebaluck, the Secretary to Cabinet, Anurag Srivastava, the High Commissioner of India, Kan Oye Fong Weng Poorun, the Secretary for Home Affairs, and Captain CG Binoop, COMCG.
These high-profile discussions helped deepen mutual understanding and further solidify bilateral relations.
As part of efforts to build local capacity and share best practices, NCG personnel received training aboard INS Teg in areas such as firefighting, damage control, bridge and engine room watchkeeping, electrical systems, and handling of small arms, the statement noted.
Additionally, live demonstrations, including diving checks after sailing, were conducted. Based on a request from the NCG, a technical team from the ship aided the crew of CGS Valiant in troubleshooting and operating a diesel generator.
To mark the International Yoga Day (IYD) 2025, a collective Yoga session took place on June 21, attracting around 150 participants.
The event united dignitaries such as the Commissioner of Police, the High Commissioner of India, NCG personnel, and the crew of INS Teg.
