Bengaluru, Feb 19 (NationPress) The Karnataka Minister for Forest, Ecology, and Environment, Eshwar B. Khandre, has initiated an enquiry into the suspicious demise of a male tiger in Shivamogga district on Wednesday.

The Minister instructed the Principal Conservator of Forests and Wildlife officials to carry out a thorough investigation and provide a report within 10 days. He pointed out that a bullet wound was discovered on the tiger's remains.

Khandre also noted that, based on initial investigations, the tiger had not been observed in the vicinity where its corpse was found.

Authorities are investigating the possibility that the animal was slain elsewhere and its body later abandoned at the location.

The carcass of the male tiger, aged approximately 8 to 9 years, was located in the backwaters of the Ambaligola reservoir at Byrapura village within the Sagar Forest Division of Shivamogga district on Monday, floating in the water during the evening.

In a related incident on February 10, a tiger was found deceased at Ramadevara Halla near Belur in Hassan district.

Preliminary assessments by experts suggested that it had perished a few days prior due to starvation.

Local residents discovered the tiger's carcass in a water body and alerted the forest officials.

Another male tiger was discovered lifeless in a lake at Ganagoor forest near Gonikoppa in Kodagu district on April 23, 2024.

Officials believe this tiger succumbed to injuries sustained in a conflict with other animals, dying while attempting to drink from the lake.

In a heartbreaking event, a one-and-a-half-year-old male tiger was killed in a vehicle collision in Mysuru on January 28, 2024.

This incident occurred close to the Mysuru airport, where the tiger was struck by a speeding vehicle, which authorities later confiscated.

The young tiger was one of four cubs frequently spotted with their mother near Nanjangud town, sustaining severe head injuries from the accident.

Wildlife advocates have criticized poorly planned road infrastructure projects and other developments in protected areas and forest reserves, which encroach on wildlife habitats, leading to animals crossing highways and facing fatal encounters with vehicles.
