Jaipur, Feb 14 (NationPress) The organization of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Rajasthan has emerged as a significant issue due to the dissolution of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). An ad hoc committee was established last year to oversee cricket matters in the state, leaving the Chief Minister with the responsibility to make a timely decision.
The pressing question remains: who will handle the organization of IPL matches in Rajasthan? Jaideep Bihani, the convenor of the ad hoc committee, has indicated that Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma will make the final decision regarding this matter.
"I have a meeting scheduled with CM Sharma tomorrow, and he will arrive at a resolution," he informed IANS.
It is important to highlight that there is ongoing uncertainty about the organization of IPL in the state. The RCA has been dissolved, and the ad hoc committee was instituted to manage cricket affairs. Last year, the Sports Council, representing the state government, oversaw the IPL.
While the Sports ad hoc committee asserts its intent to host the tournament, the Sports Council claims authority over the IPL organization. The ad hoc committee has requested the Sports Council to lease Sawai Mansingh Stadium for the IPL matches.
Jaideep Bihani reiterated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has tasked them with the organization of the matches. He previously warned that if the handover is not finalized, he would escalate the issue to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, which has now occurred. Meanwhile, Sports Department Secretary Neeraj Kumar Pawan insisted that IPL matches in Jaipur can only be organized under the Sports Council's supervision, not the ad hoc committee.
On February 10, Bihani wrote to Secretary Neeraj Kumar Pawan, emphasizing that the BCCI has authorized the RCA's ad hoc committee to manage the IPL matches in Jaipur. He urged the department to transfer control of Sawai Mansingh Stadium to ensure proper preparations. Bihani assured that the committee would pay Rs 20 lakh per match to the Sports Council for hosting IPL games at the venue.
Meanwhile, Neeraj K. Pawan confirmed to IANS that clarity on the issue would emerge in the coming hours, allowing him to provide an update once the situation is clearer. However, Bihani remarked to IANS that the CM would ultimately decide. "The ball is in CM's court now," he added.
The upcoming 18th edition of the IPL is anticipated to kick off on March 22 in Kolkata, with the official tournament schedule still pending.
