Key Takeaways
Tehran, March 29 (NationPress) The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has asserted that its air defense successfully targeted a US F-16 Fighting Falcon and an MQ-9 Reaper drone within the nation's southern airspace.
In a statement released via its official news service, Sepah News, the IRGC indicated that the US fighter jet and drone were disabled during coordinated retaliatory operations involving missiles and drones by its Navy and Aerospace Division. These operations were aimed at US and Israeli industrial sites, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Furthermore, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has acknowledged that its F-16 Fighting Falcon was indeed engaged.
CENTCOM's social media post on platform X stated, "A US Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon has returned to a Middle Eastern base following a combat mission in support of Operation Epic Fury."
Additionally, on Saturday, the IRGC announced the destruction of a Ukrainian anti-drone equipment facility located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which was reportedly being used to support US military efforts.
According to Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran's primary military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the facility in Dubai, which housed 21 Ukrainians and contained anti-drone systems, was targeted and destroyed in a collaborative operation involving the IRGC's Air Force and Navy.
In response, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Heorhiy Tykhyi, dismissed these claims as "fabrications," as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
"This information is not accurate; it is false," stated a spokesperson for Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
This incident comes amid rising tensions following joint US-Israeli military strikes on Iran that commenced on February 28, prompting Iran and its regional allies to retaliate against US and Israeli interests throughout the Middle East.
