YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday, 11 June alleged widespread irregularities in the Mega District Selection Committee (DSC) examination and teacher recruitment process, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter. Addressing a press conference in Amaravati, Jagan said the facts emerging from the recruitment drive were 'extremely shocking' and accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led government of betraying lakhs of aspirants.

Key Allegations Against the DSC Process

Jagan alleged that the recruitment process for 16,000 teacher posts was riddled with corruption from the question paper stage through to final selections. He claimed that the Chandrababu Naidu government sidelined the designated DSC Convener and instead entrusted both question paper preparation and examination management to the SCERT Director — concentrating critical responsibilities in a single authority and allegedly undermining transparency.

He further alleged that the merit list, which is conventionally displayed at the district level, was centralised under the guise of an online procedure, making independent scrutiny difficult. 'Details like how many had access to the question paper and how much money changed hands will come out only if a third-party agency investigates,' he said.

Sports Quota Controversy

One of the sharper allegations centred on the sports quota. Jagan claimed that the government issued government orders (GOs) stating that candidates under the sports quota need not clear the qualifying examination — mere participation in competitions would suffice. He alleged that TDP legislators and members of Parliament issued participation certificates for college, university, and district-level competitions, enabling favoured candidates to secure jobs.

'On the other hand, genuine candidates and National Games gold medalists who were called for interview did not get the job. In all, 270 persons got jobs in the sports quota without writing the qualifying exam,' he alleged. Videos purportedly showing posts being sold have also surfaced, according to Jagan.

Political Targeting and the June 12 Protest

Jagan named Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh, who serves as Education Minister, as the accused in the case, arguing that an internal inquiry would yield no justice. 'Chandrababu is the accused in this case along with his son Lokesh, who is the Education Minister, and if he sits in judgement, there would be no justice, which is the reason why we are demanding a CBI inquiry,' he said.

He called for the DSC irregularities issue to be highlighted during the 12 June protest — dubbed 'Vennupotuku Rendellu' (two years of betrayal) — marking two years of the TDP-led coalition government. Jagan also referenced the Janata Cockroach Party, an online movement that emerged after the NEET paper leak, saying that if youth are hurt, they will adopt such approaches.

YSRCP's Counter-Claim on Recruitment Record

Seeking to contrast the current government's record, Jagan claimed that during YSRCP's tenure, 1.30 lakh government staff were recruited flawlessly within a record four months — from notification to issuance of appointment letters. He argued that Chandrababu Naidu's governance has been 'always found wanting' in the conduct of examinations, alleging a pattern of leaks and corruption dating back to 1995.

The Andhra Pradesh government has not yet issued an official response to the allegations. With the opposition protest scheduled for 12 June, the DSC controversy is set to intensify in the coming days.
