Jammu, April 9 (NationPress) The inaugural budget session of the current Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly wrapped up in chaos as Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned the House sine die on Wednesday.
The session, lasting 21 days, began on March 3 with the address from the Lt. Governor.
The Speaker disclosed that during this period, a total of 1,355 questions were submitted; 154 main questions were discussed, and 353 supplementary questions received responses.
Additionally, 1,738 Cut Motions were submitted, with 1,731 addressed in discussions.
The Speaker also noted that three government bills were introduced and subsequently passed.
Moreover, 33 Private Members' Bills were submitted for consideration.
The Assembly Secretariat received 78 Calling Attention Motions, of which 23 were placed on the agenda while 34 were rejected.
Rather highlighted that the 21-day budget session was the second longest in the country for 2025.
He reported that 109 resolutions were presented during the session, with 85 accepted and 14 scheduled for discussion.
Over 39 hours were dedicated to proceedings during the budget session.
The Speaker expressed gratitude to all Assembly members for their collaboration in ensuring the smooth operation of the Assembly sessions. He also acknowledged the support of the Information Department, Assembly Secretariat, Health Department, Radio, Doordarshan, J&K Police, media, and other contributors during the session.
However, the day was overshadowed by disorder, with the ruling National Conference and opposition BJP engaging in heated slogan shouting.
The BJP members proposed an adjournment motion to discuss unemployment, while NC legislators insisted on a conversation regarding the Waqf Amendment Act.
The Speaker rejected both motions, and after attempts to restore order failed, he adjourned the proceedings for three hours until 1 p.m.
Upon reconvening after 1 p.m., the Speaker declared the House adjourned sine die.
