Jammu, Feb 27 (NationPress) In an all-party meeting conducted on Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to prevent any unconstitutional, undemocratic, and anti-national activities within the House.
This meeting was convened in anticipation of the Budget Session, which is set to commence on March 3 and conclude on April 11.
Sunil Sharma, a senior BJP leader and MLA, informed the media that the party is committed to ensuring that no unconstitutional, undemocratic, or anti-national resolutions, questions, or bills are permitted during the Assembly's proceedings.
Sharma emphasized to Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather that he should reject any such activities during the session and maintain impartiality in the House.
The Speaker organized the all-party meeting to seek collaboration from various political factions to uphold the Assembly's dignity and ensure proper conduct during the upcoming session.
Highlighting the significance of the question hour in holding the government accountable, the Speaker appealed to political parties to respect this time without interruptions.
Members of different political parties present at the meeting expressed a shared understanding that the Speaker should be allowed to manage the session effectively, providing ample opportunity for MLAs from different constituencies to address public concerns.
The meeting, led by Speaker Rather, included participation from Mubarak Gul of the ruling National Conference (NC), Sunil Sharma and Surjit Singh Salathia from the BJP, Ghulam Ahmad Mir from the Congress, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yusuf Tarigami from CPI(M), and Independent MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan.
After a decade-long hiatus, legislative assembly elections were conducted last year, with the previous elections taking place in 2014. The Assembly was dissolved by then-Governor Satya Pal Malik on November 21, 2018.
Following six months of Governor's rule, J&K was placed under President's rule on December 19, 2018.
