Could Jane Seymour Ever Shake Off Being a Bond Girl?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Jan 10 (NationPress) Actress Jane Seymour, who portrayed the Bond girl Solitaire alongside Roger Moore in the 1973 film Live and Let Die, believes that her role ultimately led her to relocate to the United States as she found it difficult to escape the typecasting that followed.
In an interview with The Telegraph, she said: "The English could not move beyond the fact that I had been a Bond girl. I would make it through auditions, reaching the final stages for significant roles in major films, only to have someone mention, ‘Did you know she was a Bond girl?’”
“And that would end it. I would never hear from them again. In America, they acknowledged, ‘Yes, you starred in a Bond film’, but they also recognized all the other work I had accomplished,” Seymour continued, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk.
Upon her arrival, the actress discovered that she was predominantly cast as Americans for the initial year.
She remarked: "That was amusing. I played characters from New York, Ohio, the South—you name it. They either didn’t realize I was British, or if they did, they simply forgot.”
Despite her age, the seasoned actress expressed her willingness to take on the role of Bond herself amidst speculation regarding a female successor to the iconic character.
Seymour noted: “Well, I think the odds of me being offered the role are less than zero. But I’m up for it!”
She had mentioned earlier her enthusiasm to return to the franchise following its acquisition by Amazon.
When asked if she would be interested in participating in Bond projects from the streaming service, she told the Daily Mirror: “Oh yes… but they will never invite me.”
She commended Amazon’s takeover of creative control from longtime Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
She added: “I think it’s fantastic. Amazon is immense, and I believe they will have the resources, the funding, and the passion to continue and invest in Bond.”
The actress previously expressed her willingness to make a cameo in another James Bond film.
She told People magazine: "Absolutely, I would do it. I’ve always been very candid about my openness to just walk behind the scenes and have someone say, ‘Is that Solitaire?’”
