Los Angeles, Aug 18 (NationPress) Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren has expressed her belief that James Bond should remain a man, amidst increasing speculation about a potential gender change for the iconic spy following the acquisition of the franchise by Amazon MGM Studios.

The 80-year-old actress responded to questions about the possibility of a female 007 during a promotion for her upcoming film The Thursday Night Murder Club, stating, “No, it wouldn’t work. While there have been extraordinary women in secret services displaying incredible bravery, James Bond is a man.”

She added, “There’s definitely room for a fantastic film featuring a remarkable female agent, but James Bond is James Bond.”

The discussion continues regarding who will take on the 007 mantle following Daniel Craig's departure after his final performance in No Time To Die in 2021, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk. This film introduced Lashana Lynch as the first female agent to hold the 007 title.

Producers have confirmed that a new film is currently in the works under Amazon MGM Studios, as announced earlier this year.

Pierce Brosnan, 72, who played Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, has also shared his views on the casting. He mentioned to Saga magazine: “Oh, I think it has to be a man.”

When asked for advice for the next actor, he said: “I wish them well. I’m eager to see the next man take the stage and bring a fresh energy and life to this character. I love the world of James Bond.”

“The franchise has been very kind to me. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. Now, I’m just an audience member looking forward to what will unfold.”

Speculation about the next Bond includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 34, recognized for Kick-Ass, as a leading contender. Other names mentioned are Idris Elba, 51, Theo James, 39, and James Norton, 39.

Point of View

It's essential to recognize the shifting dynamics in entertainment and representation. The discussion around James Bond's gender reflects broader societal changes.
