Henry Cavill Considers Himself Too Old for James Bond Role
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 12 (NationPress) British actor Henry Cavill has often been regarded as an ideal candidate for the role of James Bond, yet he believes he may be considered a "bit old" for this iconic character.
At 42, Cavill has been a long-time favorite to portray the legendary British spy, especially after nearly securing the role during the final auditions for the 2006 film ‘Casino Royale’, only to lose it to Daniel Craig, who was 58 at the time, according to reports from Female First UK.
In a recent interview with Heat magazine, Henry reflected, "I didn’t turn the role down; it just wasn’t the right time. What actor wouldn’t want to be Bond? But at 42, I’d probably be seen as a bit too old to start now."
Other names in the mix to take over from Craig, whose last Bond film was 2021's ‘No Time to Die’, include Jacob Elordi, 28, and Callum Turner, 36, as potential contenders for the upcoming untitled 26th 007 film from Amazon MGM Studios.
Cavill has also expressed interest in playing a Bond villain. The upcoming storyline, crafted by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, is rumored to revolve around the dangers posed by artificial intelligence (AI).
He added, "I would love to portray a Bond villain. If the character was intriguing, that would be captivating to explore."
After missing out on the Bond role, Cavill went on to portray Superman in 2013's Man of Steel. He enjoys the recognition he receives from children, who often mistake him for their superhero, a role he feels a significant responsibility towards.
He stated, "It’s wonderful when kids recognize me because they see me as the actual Superman, not just the actor who plays him. Taking on such an iconic role carries a real responsibility, not only for the film but also in how I engage with the vast fanbase."
