New Delhi/Ranchi, Nov 24 (NationPress) Jharkhand Minister and prominent Congress figure Irfan Ansari addressed accusations of threatening election officials, dismissing some media narratives as "intentional misrepresentation" and pledging to uphold voters' Constitutional rights ahead of the upcoming second phase of Assembly elections.
In a comprehensive statement shared on his official X account, the Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare stated: "Certain media channels have twisted my remarks, which I condemn vehemently. I merely indicated that some deceitful individuals in our region are masquerading as fake BLOs (Booth Level Officers) to intimidate and extort money from vulnerable citizens. Strong action must be taken against such offenders. If anyone suspicious approaches you to remove names or engage in illicit activities, please notify me and the authorities immediately. BLOs are esteemed officers of the Election Commission of India—no impostor can replace them. I called for the Election Commission to carry out a thorough revision and verification of the voter list with complete transparency, ensuring that not a single poor, tribal, Dalit, or ordinary citizen is unjustly removed from the electoral rolls. Furthermore, any initiative like Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Jharkhand will have a direct effect on millions of people. Therefore, the protection of public voice and Constitutional rights is crucial. I remain entirely devoted to defending democracy, our Constitution, and the rights of every Jharkhandi."
The situation escalated after a video from Ansari's public meeting in Jamtara went viral on Saturday night.
Opposition BJP leaders accused him of "threatening BLOs on camera" and demanded immediate action from the Election Commission, including the filing of an FIR and his removal from the state Cabinet.
The Election Commission has reportedly requested a report from the Jamtara district election officer regarding the allegations of impersonation.
Sources indicate that the poll panel has already instructed police to file cases against anyone found posing as fake BLOs.
