Ranchi, Aug 18 (NationPress) In a significant operation against extremist activities, the Jharkhand Police apprehended six active members of outlawed organizations from the districts of Khunti and Latehar, successfully recovering arms, ammunition, and various materials linked to terror-related activities.
In Khunti, authorities arrested four operatives of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) based on an intelligence tip-off.
The apprehended extremists include the infamous PLFI history-sheeter Ojha Pahan, also known as Ojha Topno, along with Xavier Kongadi, Santosh Kongadi, and Jibnus Aind, alias Dadhiyal.
The Superintendent of Police in Khunti established a specialized team under SDPO Torpa Christopher Kerketta, which conducted a raid near Jibilong Tongri in the Rania police station area, where the extremists were reportedly planning to extort money from contractors and traders.
During the operation, police seized a loaded 7.65 mm country-made pistol, another country-made pistol, several live rounds, mobile phones, SIM cards, and two bottles of petrol, believed to be intended for arson.
Authorities indicated that the group was responsible for multiple violent incidents in recent months. On May 27, they set a road roller engaged in construction ablaze, and on August 8, they attempted to set fire to a JCB machine in Raikera village.
Importantly, Ojha Pahan has 17 criminal cases registered against him, including charges of murder, arson, extortion, and violations of the Arms Act in Khunti and Gumla districts.
In a concurrent operation in Latehar, law enforcement apprehended two active members of the banned group Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) — identified as Amin Ansari (30) and Krishna Sahu, also known as Krishna Prasad (30).
Operating on secret intelligence, a team led by SDPO Arvind Kumar captured the duo.
According to police reports, both of the arrested extremists have admitted to their involvement in multiple incidents of extremist violence in the region.
Officials stated that these operations in Khunti and Latehar are part of an intensified campaign to combat the activities of banned groups that have been attempting to instill fear and engage in extortion across Jharkhand.
