New Delhi, Nov 27 (NationPress) The formalization of job creation in India saw a slowdown in October. However, job postings continued to exceed pre-pandemic levels, according to a report released on Thursday.
Indeed, a prominent hiring platform, reported that despite the downturn, Indian job postings remain 60% above pre-Covid levels, although they have decreased by 25% since reaching their peak in January 2023.
In the last three months, job postings diminished across nearly three-quarters of occupations. Nonetheless, the report indicates that certain sectors have shown resilience during this period.
Notably, job postings in cleaning and sanitation surged by approximately 20% over the past three months, followed by community and social service at 17.4%, dental at 13.1%, nursing at 11.2%, and food preparation and service at 10.3%.
Additionally, human resources postings experienced a modest rise of 2.3%.
However, these advancements were more than counterbalanced by declines in banking and finance, where postings fell by 25.6%, along with legal at -22.4%, retail at -16.7%, and loading and stocking at -15%, as noted in the report.
Each month, India's workforce gradually shifts towards more formal employment structures. As this transition progresses, job creation in the formal sector is anticipated to outpace overall employment growth across the nation, according to Callam Pickering, APAC Senior Economist at Indeed.
He stated, “This transition is also why job postings in India have remained stronger than in other Indeed markets, both during the post-pandemic job boom and in the subsequent slowdown.”
During October, 9.1% of Indian job postings specifically included terms like ‘work from home’ or ‘work remotely’. This is an increase from 7.6% a year prior.
Remote job opportunities are predominantly found in IT infrastructure, operations, and support, comprising 18.2% of postings in the October quarter, followed by community and social service at 15.1% and industrial engineering at 14%.
