Bengaluru, June 13 (NationPress) Despite a global hiring downturn, India's formal employment sector is experiencing a remarkable revival, fueled by increasing demand across various industries, according to a recent report released on Friday.
Job postings in India surged by 8.9% in May, marking a significant rebound following a brief hiatus, as per data from the global job platform Indeed.
This growth underscores the resilience and dynamism of India's job market, which remains nearly 80% above pre-pandemic levels—one of the highest rates among major economies.
The expansion of India's job market is attributed to its transition towards a more structured and formal economy.
As the country evolves, job creation in the formal sector continues to surpass overall employment growth. This consistent upward trajectory positions India ahead of many other global economies,” stated Callam Pickering, Indeed’s APAC Senior Economist.
The report indicates that job postings have risen in nearly 80% of occupations over the last three months.
Significant gains were noted in sectors such as childcare (up 27%), personal care and home health (up 25%), education (up 24%), and production & manufacturing (up 22%)—reflecting a growing demand in both social and industrial services.
The software development sector continues to dominate India's formal recruitment landscape, accounting for nearly one in five job postings on Indeed.
Another noteworthy aspect of the report is the rising demand for talent skilled in generative AI.
As of May, 1.5% of all job postings in India referenced generative AI—more than double compared to the previous year.
Roles related to generative AI are emerging not just in technology and data analytics but are also expanding into fields such as scientific research, marketing, and management.
Regional hubs like Karnataka and Telangana have become key centers for generative AI opportunities, while Maharashtra leads in overall job volumes.
