New Delhi, Sep 4 (NationPress) The Central Government has officially sanctioned the appointment of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, following a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium.

According to a notification released by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, "In the exercise of the authority granted by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is delighted to appoint Shri Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, a Judge of the Bombay High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court effective from the date he takes charge of his position."

The Supreme Court Collegium convened on August 25 and proposed Justice Chandrashekhar's name for the Chief Justice position of the Bombay High Court. This follows the elevation of the former Chief Justice Alok Aradhe to the Supreme Court, leading to Justice Chandrashekhar’s appointment as the Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

Article 223 of the Constitution authorizes the President to appoint any puisne judge as acting Chief Justice when "the position of Chief Justice of a High Court is vacant or when such Chief Justice is unable to fulfill the responsibilities of their office due to absence or other reasons."
