New Delhi, July 12 (NationPress) Renowned Bollywood actress Kajol, celebrated for her outstanding roles in iconic films such as Baazigar, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, Gupt, Ishq, Dushman, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, shared her insights on the diminishing recall value of movies. She noted that in the past, films left a profound impact on audiences as cinemas were the sole avenue to view stars, fostering deeper memories.
Kajol explained that with the rise of social media and OTT platforms, the unique thrill and memorability associated with films have significantly reduced.
When asked why contemporary films lack the same lasting impression as older ones, Kajol responded to IANS: “While I believe there are some films today that do leave a mark, I wouldn’t claim there are none.”
She elaborated: “Back then, everyone flocked to cinemas to see their favorites. If you wanted to watch Shah Rukh Khan, you had to go to the theater. The same applied for Ajay Devgn. There were no alternatives.”
The actress continued: “In those days, there was no social media or OTT—nothing. If you wanted to see them, it had to be in a cinema hall. That exclusivity created the strongest memories.”
She added, “With so many ways to consume content today, perhaps it doesn't resonate as deeply, or maybe it’s not as memorable.” Kajol’s latest film is the mythological horror “Maa”.
Looking ahead, Kajol is set to star in “Sarzameen”, directed by Kayoze Irani, which will premiere on JioHotstar on July 25. The film features Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Additionally, she will appear in “Maharagni: Queen of Queens”, an action thriller directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati. This film showcases Kajol in the lead role, alongside Prabhu Deva, Naseeruddin Shah, Samyuktha, Jisshu Sengupta, Aditya Seal, Pramod Pathak, and Chhaya Kadam. It narrates the story of a mother and daughter.
