Guwahati, March 9 (NationPress) In a bold move, former Congress member Kandarpa Kalita has publicly criticized Assam's Congress president, Gaurav Gogoi, following his resignation from the party. Kalita accused Gogoi of treating party members as “subordinates” and lacking a genuine commitment to Assamese nationalism.

During a press conference, he expressed that Gogoi does not honor the contributions of grassroots workers and has disrespected veteran leaders within the party.

“Gaurav Gogoi believes that Congress workers are at his beck and call. This mindset has fostered significant discontent among party ranks,” Kalita stated.

He went on to assert that Gogoi shows no regard for regional identity or the interests of Assam.

“When it comes to Assam, Gaurav Gogoi exhibits no sense of nationalism. His promises regarding justice are merely empty words,” Kalita remarked.

Referring to ongoing political discussions about popular singer Zubeen Garg, Kalita claimed that Gogoi has been making misleading promises regarding justice for him.

“Gaurav Gogoi is making grand claims of justice for Zubeen Garg, but these assurances are nothing but smoke and mirrors meant to deceive the populace,” he added.

In a biting critique, Kalita labeled Gogoi as a “lora raja” (young king), implying that he acts with unwarranted entitlement within the party.

Kalita further alleged that the Congress party in Assam is currently being manipulated by senior leader Rakibul Hussain.

“Right now, the Congress in Assam resembles ‘Congress (R)’, dominated by Rakibul Hussain’s influence,” he declared.

Kalita’s resignation and comments arrive as the Congress party is working to restructure its organization and forge alliances with regional factions ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

While party officials have yet to respond officially to Kalita’s accusations, political analysts suggest that these statements highlight ongoing internal strife within the Assam unit of the Congress.

Kandarpa Kalita's resignation from the Congress party and his subsequent criticisms of Gaurav Gogoi highlight deeper issues within the party's structure in Assam.
