Is the Governor's Office Being Misused in Karnataka?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Karnataka branch of the BJP has condemned the state administration for purportedly exploiting the Governor's office to launch criticisms against the Central government.
BJP Karnataka President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's government to facilitate the joint session of both Houses of the Legislature within a constructive democratic atmosphere and a positive federal ethos, avoiding any remarks in the Governor’s speech that might disparage the Central government.
A special session is scheduled for January 22; however, the Governor has declined to address the joint session of the Karnataka Legislature. A delegation led by the Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, H. K. Patil, is set to meet with the Governor in hopes of persuading him.
Vijayendra emphasized that there is no opposition to the Governor delivering his address. Instead, the Governor has objected to the state government disseminating false and misleading information and utilizing the address to conduct propaganda against the Central government, misleading the public.
According to Vijayendra, the state administration has been persistently engaging in propaganda against Central government initiatives. It is both unfortunate and unconstitutional that the government is leveraging the constitutional office of the Governor for such purposes, he stated.
He acknowledged the Governor's decision not to read any content that could jeopardize the unity and integrity of the nation, labeling the government's behavior as deplorable.
Vijayendra accused the state administration of prioritizing divisive politics over the welfare of the people, suggesting it would be prudent for the government to revise its approach following the Governor’s decision.
He remarked that a party professing to champion federalism is, due to its current power in Karnataka, misusing the Legislature to target the Central government and engage in vendetta politics, which constitutes an assault on democracy.
He further accused the state government, which claims to uphold the Constitution and federal structure, of repeatedly attacking the Central government and betraying the citizens of the state.
Vijayendra alleged that the state administration has continuously undermined the Constitution and federal system, failing to protect the citizens' interests over the past 32 months while passing resolutions in the Legislature against the NDA government at the Centre as part of a scheme to weaken federalism.
He stated that in the eight legislative sessions conducted thus far, the state government has passed five resolutions against the Central government, misusing the majority mandate bestowed by the people.
Under the guise of guarantee schemes, developmental progress has been neglected, the state's financial viability has deteriorated, and there are indications that the state treasury could face bankruptcy imminently, he claimed.
To obscure this, the government is making unfounded accusations against the Centre and inciting discord among the populace. He also condemned the government for calling a special legislative session to discuss the VB G Ram G scheme, with the intention of once more raising a ruckus against the Central government.
