Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, unveiled multiple initiatives aimed at enhancing the development of temples, pilgrim amenities, and religious infrastructure during the State Budget presentation in the Legislative Assembly.
He announced a financial aid of Rs 5,000 for each pilgrim from Karnataka visiting the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple.
A total budget of Rs 5 crore has been allocated for this scheme, with the funds to be distributed directly to the beneficiaries via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Siddaramaiah also introduced the Jala Nidhi Kalyani Rejuvenation Scheme to revitalize 259 temple kalyanis managed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Institutions Department over a span of three years. An allocation of Rs 5 crore is set aside for this initiative.
In a bid to enhance infrastructure and ensure holistic development of key pilgrimage sites, the government plans to establish development authorities for both the Kukke Shri Subramanya Temple and Kolluru Shri Mookambika Temple, as stated by the Chief Minister.
Additionally, renovation and reconstruction efforts will be initiated for Karnataka's guest houses situated at pilgrimage hubs beyond the State. A new choultry will be erected in Varanasi due to the poor condition of the current facility. The existing choultry on land owned by the Raghavendra Swamy temple in Mantralaya, Andhra Pradesh, will also undergo renovations.
The Chief Minister further highlighted plans for constructing a new Yatri Nivas in Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh, while the choultry in Tulajapur, Maharashtra, will be rebuilt to enhance accommodation and amenities for pilgrims.
Furthermore, a students’ hostel and a commercial complex will be established on land belonging to the department at the Bandi Seshamma Choultry near Kempegowda Circle in Bengaluru, utilizing the property more effectively while fostering educational and commercial activities in the vicinity.
A counseling system will also be implemented for the transfer of officers and staff within the department, the Chief Minister noted.
The construction of the Anubhava Mantapa, initiated by the Basavakalyana Development Board, is nearing completion, with the remaining works expected to be finalized this year and opened for public access.
