Has Karnataka Transformed from an IT Hub to a Drugs Park Under Congress Rule?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has alleged that under the leadership of the Congress government, the state has shifted from being an IT hub to a “drugs park”.
On the floor of the Assembly, State BJP General Secretary and senior MLA V. Sunil Kumar expressed these concerns while addressing the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address during the joint session.
“Karnataka has long been recognized as an IT park, but now it is being referred to as a drugs park. To uncover a drug factory in Mysuru, the hometown of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Maharashtra Police had to intervene. Similarly, drug-related raids were conducted by Delhi Police in Bengaluru,” he stated.
“The Chief Minister recently interrogated IPS officers about their inability to identify drug factories, despite law enforcement from other states successfully doing so. He remarked that nothing occurs without police awareness. If Maharashtra Police can unearth these illicit operations, why can’t our police?” he asked.
“It is disgraceful that Karnataka has become a fertile ground for the drug mafia. The law and order situation has deteriorated under your rule, and we have never witnessed such extensive misuse of the police department,” he accused.
“In a climate where law and order is crumbling and a selective justice system prevails, it seems there are two sets of laws: one for the common populace and another for Congress leaders,” he asserted.
“How many times must I highlight the current law and order scenario? Since Siddaramaiah assumed the role of Chief Minister for a second term, a selective justice system has emerged. There is unequal application of the law throughout the past two-and-a-half years of Congress governance,” Sunil Kumar stated.
“I will provide instances of how the law department and police have managed different cases across the state. The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council was detained in Kalaburagi, yet no legal actions were pursued against him. Conversely, swift action was taken in the case involving BJP MLC C.T. Ravi for his remarks against Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar,” he mentioned.
“A woman municipal commissioner in Sidlaghatta, Kolar district, was threatened by a Congress leader, and it took the government 14 days to respond. Why did it take so long to identify its own leader? Does the government believe the law and order situation is acceptable in the state?” he questioned.
“The application of the law is selective in this environment. What about the ethics of government officials? In Shivamogga district, a Congress MLA’s son threatened government employees. The current atmosphere is such that Congress leaders feel untouchable,” the BJP leader alleged.
“The situation is dire, as JD(S) MLA Kareamma Nayak reported on the Assembly floor that she was threatened by the sand mafia. Senior MLA S. Suresh Kumar noted that Congress workers targeted his residence in Bengaluru. What kind of environment are we living in?” he urged.
“In reference to the Ballari violence incident, a Deputy Superintendent of Police was transferred and later reinstated. The management of the Ballari situation is deeply troubling. A group approached BJP MLA Janardhana Reddy’s residence under the guise of installing banners and fired shots. How did the government respond? When Janardhana Reddy requested security after shots were fired, a minister suggested he seek protection from abroad. Can we claim that law and order is maintained with such statements?” Sunil Kumar questioned.
“How many arrests have been made in the Ballari violence case? How are other cases being addressed? Is this government being run by private gunmen and bouncers?” he pressed.
Sunil Kumar further inquired about who permitted terrorists to possess mobile phones inside Bengaluru Central Prison. He reiterated that Maharashtra Police had to raid a drug factory in Mysuru, the Chief Minister's hometown.
He asserted that the Governor’s speech did not address key issues affecting the public and accused the government of attempting to be clever. “The government should reflect on its governance. As it refuses to introspect and has opted for confrontation, misgovernance has persisted,” he stated.
“If you genuinely want to understand how your government operates, visit government offices incognito. This government has lost its way, lacks leadership, and is led by a powerless Chief Minister. The administration is unresponsive,” he claimed, adding that Congress leaders were misrepresenting guarantees as development.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka remarked that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself criticized the police for their inability to manage minor issues such as banner installations. “The CM has acknowledged the police's helplessness and has even stated that officers are becoming corrupt,” Ashoka stated.
Referring to Ballari Congress MLA Nara Bharath Reddy, Ashoka noted that the MLA had publicly stated he could incinerate BJP MLA Janardhana Reddy’s home and claimed to have the support of 5,000 to 6,000 individuals. “Is he an elected representative or a terrorist?” Ashoka questioned.
He further alleged that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had extended complete support to the MLA. “Is this how the law and the Constitution are respected? While FIRs were filed against those who discharged bullets, an FIR was lodged against Janardhana Reddy within an hour. The primary accused remains at large,” Ashoka concluded.
