Karwar, (Karnataka) Sep 18 (NationPress) The Karnataka police have apprehended two suspects for allegedly butchering cows and illegally disposing of their remains in a forested area within Bhatkal town, according to official reports released on Thursday.
The arrested individuals, named Mohammad Saman (19) and Mohammad Raheen (20), both hailing from Bhatkal, were taken into custody following a formal complaint by a forest officer.
Consequently, an investigation was initiated at the Bhatkal Shahar Police Station under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020.
The authorities have confiscated the vehicle implicated in the crime. Both suspects have been presented before the court and are currently in judicial custody.
The action was prompted by a complaint from Forest Officer Maruti from the Bhatkal Sub Division.
In his complaint, the officer mentioned that on September 11, around 2 p.m., the suspects ventured into the restricted Mugdum Colony Gudde forest area and allegedly disposed of parts of a cow carcass, including skin, horns, and bones, after the animal was slaughtered.
As a result of this complaint, the Bhatkal Shahar Police registered an offence under Section 4(12) of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, along with Section 329(3) of the BNS Act.
Police units were formed to track down the accused, who were subsequently arrested. The Karwar Superintendent of Police praised the officers for their swift action in solving the case.
Both officials and citizens in the region continue to strive towards preventing the slaughter of cows.
In a related incident, 49 cows were rescued from slaughter near the border of Bengaluru in August 2025 and relocated to a ‘goshala’.
Earlier, in June 2024, over 100 cows and bulls were saved from being slaughtered in Bengaluru during Bakrid, thanks to the support of organizations like the Gau Gyan Foundation.
In another case, the Kankanady police from Mangaluru district arrested three individuals linked to a cattle theft reported from Adyar on September 13.
Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that a cow was stolen from the residence of one Umesh Alva in Tajipodi, Adyar. The Kankanady Town Police managed to trace the stolen cow, leading to the arrest of three suspects identified as Shabaz Ahmed of Adyar, Mohammad Suhan of Arkula, and Valachil Khader Mohammad alias Koli Monakka of Adyar.
