Bengaluru, Jan 31 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, alleged that Congress leaders have intentionally convened a special session in Karnataka to oppose the Viksit Bharat Guarantee Rozgar Ajeevika Mission (VB-G RAM G).

The Congress-led government has prolonged the session for an additional two days until Feb 2 to deliberate on the introduction of VB-G RAM G and the repeal of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (MGNREGA).

At a press briefing held at the BJP state office in Bengaluru on Saturday, Narayanaswamy asserted that Congress was resistant to the inclusion of the term “Ram” in the Viksit Bharat Guarantee Rozgar Ajeevika Mission (VB-G RAM G).

He noted that Congress leaders incorrectly assumed the scheme was named after Lord Ram, emphasizing that MGNREGA was originally named for Jawaharlal Nehru before being modified to include Mahatma Gandhi’s name.

Narayanaswamy explained that the acronym for Viksit Bharat Guarantee Rozgar Ajeevika Mission naturally forms “RAM,” which he argued symbolizes the emergence of Ram within the initiative.

He stressed there was no necessity to hold a session of the House at this juncture.

He elaborated that under the VB-G RAM G initiative, which has enhanced the MGNREGA program by providing legal backing, the employment duration has been extended from 100 to 125 days. Workers are mandated to perform manual labor, biometric attendance is documented, and wages of Rs 370 are directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

He stated that the scheme is aimed at creating assets and improving rural livelihoods, but alleged that Congress is opposed to it.

Addressing the purported disrespect exhibited by Congress legislators towards the Governor after he declined to read the speech prepared by the state government, Narayanaswamy mentioned that Congress leaders shouted slogans against the Governor as he exited the joint session. He added that the BJP opposes any attempts to mistreat the Governor. “Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad was responsible for the entire incident,” he stated.

Narayanaswamy further accused Hariprasad of repeatedly making remarks against the RSS, speaking disrespectfully about women, and using derogatory language.

He also condemned Hariprasad’s alleged remark questioning whether he should have shown his leg instead of his hand to the Governor.

Narayanaswamy mentioned that he faced abusive language for questioning these comments and argued that Hariprasad’s behavior was unacceptable. He emphasized that all BJP members in the House unanimously condemned Hariprasad.

He stated that he had never encountered such behavior in politics before and added that BJP members ensured Hariprasad was compelled to apologize.

Point of View

This incident underscores the ongoing political friction in India, particularly in Karnataka, where the BJP and Congress are locked in a fierce battle over rural employment initiatives. The opposition's actions raise critical questions about their commitment to public welfare and governance standards, making it essential for voters to scrutinize each party's intentions.
