Kashi Rudras captain Karan Sharma says the squad has bonded strongly during their pre-season camp and is ready to begin their UPT20 2026 title defence against Meerut Mavericks on Friday, 15 August in the season opener at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. The two-time champions face a familiar opponent in what is a rematch of last season's final.

A Familiar Rivalry to Open the Season

The opening fixture of UPT20 2026 revives one of the league's sharpest contests. Kashi Rudras and Meerut Mavericks are the only two franchises to have won the UPT20 League — Rudras claimed the inaugural title in 2023 and retained it in 2025, while Mavericks won the championship in 2024. Last season's final ended emphatically, with Kashi defeating Meerut by eight wickets to secure their second title.

'It has been a very good camp for us. We got the space to spend time together, understand each other, and get comfortable as a group before we started thinking about this first game. It is a great feeling to be part of a setup where the conversations began even before we stepped onto the field for practice. The team has come together really well, and we know there is a lot of hard work ahead,' Sharma said.

'We have the support and prayers of Kashi behind us, and now it is about taking that energy into the first game and giving our best,' he added.

Pre-Season Camp and Squad Build-Up

Rudras completed an 11-day pre-season camp in Kanpur from 1 to 11 August, giving the players structured time to settle into their roles. Head coach Dhruv Singh said the camp was critical to understanding individual strengths and fine-tuning team plans ahead of a demanding season.

'We have had good preparation, and the camp was a really important part of that. It gave us time to look at the players closely, understand their strengths, and work on the things we wanted to improve before the competition begins. There is a good balance in this group, and everyone understands that we have to start well,' Singh said.

Key Performers and New Additions

Rudras enter the new season on the back of a dominant 2025 campaign — winning seven of 10 league matches, including their first six consecutive games. Captain Karan Sharma topped the league's run charts with 519 runs, earning his second Orange Cap in UPT20 history. Atal Bihari Rai finished joint-second among leading wicket-takers with 20 wickets, while Sunil Kumar and Kartik Yadav contributed 15 and 14 wickets respectively.

At the player auction in Agra, the franchise retained its core group and added fresh faces. All-rounder Mohammad Sharim was the highest-priced signing at ₹17.50 lakh. Vaibhav Choudhary, Vijay Yadav, Virat Jaiswal, Manav Sindhu, and Sahab Yuvraj Singh also joined the squad.
