Mumbai, Oct 9 (NationPress) During his recent visit to Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer was warmly welcomed with the beloved anthem “Tujhe Dekha To” from the iconic 1995 film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)”, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The production house shared a delightful video on Instagram showing Starmer listening to the song, clearly enjoying the moment.
The post read: “We are incredibly honored to have hosted the UK Prime Minister @keirstarmer at Yash Raj Films yesterday!”
In a special celebration marking the film's 30th anniversary, YRF announced plans to resume filming in the UK with three major projects set to launch in early 2026, ending an eight-year hiatus.
“The bond between the UK and YRF is longstanding, and it was a joy to play the legendary Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge as we commemorate its milestone anniversary,”
the caption continued. “Our connection with the UK strengthens further with a new three-film production agreement starting in 2026. Currently, YRF is also working on the stage adaptation of DDLJ, the English musical Come Fall In Love, which aims to delight audiences with this enchanting cross-cultural romance! #UKIndia #StarringGREATBritain.
The song's inclusion is likely due to the fact that Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was filmed in the stunning settings of London and other UK locations. According to variety.com, Starmer also had the chance to meet actress Rani Mukerji, who is married to YRF's head, Aditya Chopra.
In Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol portray Raj and Simran, two young non-resident Indians who fall in love while on a European vacation with friends. Raj endeavors to win over Simran's family to gain their approval for marriage, despite her father's longstanding promise to another suitor.
This film was the top-grossing Indian movie of 1995 and remains one of the most successful Indian films ever. When adjusted for inflation, it ranks as the second highest-grossing Indian film of the 1990s, trailing only Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!. It also earned the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Notably, it is hailed as the longest-running film in Indian cinema history, still playing at the Maratha Mandir in Mumbai since its October 20, 1995 release, as of March 2025.
