Mumbai, Feb 10 (NationPress) In anticipation of the 200th anniversary of contemporary railways in 2025, the railway system of Britain is poised to pay tribute to three decades of the legendary film "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge".
In an innovative partnership with Yash Raj Films, this initiative seeks to showcase the unifying essence of love through a special cultural celebration between the UK and India.
YRF is also marking 30 years of "DDLJ," which stands as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films ever. The film, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in leading roles, was largely filmed in the UK, with the celebrated King’s Cross Railway Station as the setting where the protagonists first encounter and realize their profound affection for one another.
Coinciding with Valentine’s Day, Britain's railway along with YRF has unveiled a cultural partnership to emphasize the romance of train journeys. YRF is actively working on a musical version of "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge," named "Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical" (CFIL), which is slated to debut at the Manchester Opera House on 29 May 2025, running until 21 June 2025.
The collaboration will incorporate immersive experiences at both Manchester and London railway stations, celebrating how love can bridge cultures through the enchantment of Come Fall in Love and the iconic heritage of DDLJ.
"Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical," presented in English, is directed by Aditya Chopra, who originally helmed DDLJ. It narrates the story of Simran, a young British Indian woman, who finds herself betrothed to a family acquaintance in India through an arranged marriage. Tension arises as she falls for a British man named Roger.
This production will feature a unique score with 18 English songs. The creative team behind CFIL is a true representation of the East Meets West phenomenon! The music is composed by Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani, with the book and lyrics penned by Nell Benjamin (known for Mean Girls, Legally Blonde).
In a statement, Suzanne Donnelly, Executive Director of Railway 200, expressed, “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Yash Raj Films and celebrate the everlasting romance of railways and the ability to connect people globally. Railways have long inspired filmmakers and have been pivotal in shaping our cultural narrative. This bicentennial year presents a fantastic opportunity to honor the 30th anniversary of this immensely successful, rail-centric Bollywood hit and its upcoming musical debut in the UK this summer.”
Notably, "DDLJ" is recognized as the longest-running film in Indian cinema, having been shown continuously in Mumbai since its release in 1995.
