Kejriwal Critiques BJP and Congress: Voter Neglect Post-Election
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Surat, March 9 (NationPress) Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), criticized the BJP and Congress leaders on Monday for their pre-election promises that vanish post-elections during a regional booth conference. Kejriwal remarked, “Every five years, we cast our votes, and during elections, these leaders approach us with folded hands and affection. However, once the voting ends, they shut their doors to the people, claiming to be busy.”
While on a two-day tour in Gujarat, he urged the citizens to establish their own government and back AAP. “It’s time to wake up and grab the broom to create your own government this time,” he stated, referencing his party’s election symbol.
Kejriwal lambasted the BJP for being in power for three decades, asserting, “Over these 30 years, the BJP has exploited Gujarat’s trade, jobs, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and even MGNREGA.” He questioned how long the populace would endure the corruption, paper leaks, and various infrastructural failures leading to tragedies.
Touching upon the political climate in the Visavadar Assembly, he pointed out that the public had the power to defeat influential leaders. “Just as the people of Visavadar toppled powerful leaders, the same should occur throughout Gujarat this election,” he remarked, referring to AAP’s Gopal Italia's victory in the constituency.
Kejriwal also highlighted an incident in Botad district where peaceful farmers protesting against the 'Kadda' practice were met with police brutality. “The farmers had assembled peacefully without any violence, yet they were forcefully removed from their homes, with 85 farmers imprisoned for months,” he added, expressing the farmers' rising anger over the circumstances.
He referenced AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava, who confronted alleged corruption in MGNREGA, stating, “Fake records are filled while actual work is neglected, allowing ministers to siphon off funds.” Kejriwal pointed out that Vasava was imprisoned for four months for demanding accountability.
Concerns about youth unemployment were raised, alongside claims of rampant illegal liquor and drug trade in Gujarat. He referenced the tragic Morbi bridge collapse, which resulted in 140 fatalities, and another bridge incident in Vadodara with 22 deaths, declaring, “In the last five years, 12 bridges have failed.”
Additionally, he mentioned examination paper leaks impacting students and flooding in Surat that inundated homes following a single downpour. He promised that if AAP took power in Gujarat, it would implement services akin to those in Punjab, including free electricity, healthcare, education, and a monthly assistance of ₹1,000 for every woman.
Kejriwal called for public support for AAP, urging that the next two years should focus on strengthening the party in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
