Chandigarh, Jan 28 (NationPress) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday stated that the claim of poisonous water made by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal “is simply a political maneuver by the Aam Aadmi Party intended to sway voters ahead of the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections and divert attention from its own shortcomings.”
He mentioned that the matter has been raised with the Election Commission of India. “Guaranteeing a dependable water supply to the national capital is a shared obligation, which Haryana is fulfilling diligently and without fail,” he asserted.
Highlighting the inadequacies of the Delhi government, the Chief Minister pointed out that in 2021, Delhi submitted a petition to which the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) replied. “The CPCB’s response indicated the issue of ammonia nitrogen in the Wazirabad pond and noted that there exists a water treatment facility in Agra capable of processing water with ammonia levels up to 24 mg/l. However, the Delhi government has yet to take any action to enhance the Wazirabad plant. Consequently, residents of Delhi are still compelled to consume polluted water, while Arvind Kejriwal attempts to blame Haryana to obscure his own failures.”
CM Saini expressed that the citizens of Haryana hold the Yamuna River in high regard, describing it as their mother. “The Yamuna serves as a vital resource for both Haryana and Delhi, and it is our collective duty to maintain its purity.”
He denounced Kejriwal's claims, labeling them as an affront to the faith of Haryana and its inhabitants. The people of Haryana revere the Yamuna as a sacred river and engage in its worship. He stated that Kejriwal's allegations are not only unfounded but also disrespectful to Haryana’s cultural heritage and values.
He clarified that Delhi receives its drinking water supply of 1,049 cusecs at Munak from the waters of the Yamuna and Ravi-Beas rivers. “Haryana consistently delivers this water to Delhi via two canals: The Carrier Line Channel (CLC) and the Delhi Branch. Since the launch of the Carrier Line Channel in 2014, Haryana has not supplied any water to Delhi through drains or directly from the Yamuna River; rather, clean water is provided exclusively through the canal system of CLC and Delhi Branch.”
He assured that the Haryana government is dedicated to maintaining the purity and uninterrupted supply of water to Delhi. The Chief Minister stated that between January 7 and 13, 2021, the CPCB analyzed the water from Yamunanagar (Haryana) to Wazirabad (Delhi) and scrutinized the primary sources of contamination. The findings revealed that polluted water is being illicitly discharged between Palla and Wazirabad. Furthermore, the buildup of sediment in the Wazirabad pond is leading to increased ammonia nitrogen concentrations. Nevertheless, the Delhi government has failed to act on the CPCB’s findings since 2021. Neither has the unlawful discharge of contaminated water between Palla and Wazirabad been halted nor has any effort been made to cleanse the Wazirabad pond.
The Chief Minister urged the populace to emphasize water conservation and utilize water resources wisely. He emphasized that conserving water is essential not only for the present but also for the welfare of future generations.
