Mangaluru (Karnataka) Feb 11 (NationPress) The family of a 23-year-old college student residing in Mangaluru has raised allegations of a 'Muslim conspiracy' surrounding their daughter's marriage to a man from a different community, seeking police assistance as they assert she was coerced and manipulated.

During a media briefing in Mangaluru on Wednesday, the girl's parents, Vishwanath and Latha, claimed that their daughter, Vaishali, was subjected to blackmail and intimidation to enter into the relationship. “She is not the kind of person who would fall in love so easily. She has been brainwashed. There is a conspiracy at play,” they stated, appealing to authorities to ensure her safety and bring her back home.

Following their complaint, the Surathkal police in Mangaluru have filed a First Information Report (FIR) and commenced an investigation. The police reported that they are working on locating the woman and understanding the details of the situation.

Mother Latha shared, "We raised our child with utmost love. She was always with us and never caused us any distress. We are baffled by this situation. We suspect a Muslim conspiracy is behind it all."

“She was performing well academically and communicated with us regularly. We had no reason to suspect anything. Upon learning about the incident, we were taken aback. We found out via a WhatsApp message. We hurried to Surathkal and filed a police report. She had expressed her intention to pursue a career after her studies and mentioned she would marry the boy we selected for her,” mother Latha added.

“We want our daughter back. She should return to us. We have no knowledge of the boy,” she expressed.

Vaishali, originally from Kasaragod district in Kerala, was studying Criminology at a college in Mukka near Surathkal, residing in a paying guest accommodation.

According to police officials, she entered into a registered marriage with Mohammad Midlaj, hailing from Wayanad in Kerala, on January 31 at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Wayanad.

The family discovered the news of the registered marriage through social media. Vishwanath, her father who was overseas, returned home urgently after learning about it. Subsequently, the family visited the PG hostel where Vaishali had been living and reviewed CCTV footage showing her leaving the premises on February 9.

After losing contact with her, they filed a missing persons report at the Surathkal police station. This led to the registration of an FIR and further inquiries.

The parents also mentioned they traveled to Wayanad and met their daughter at a local police station. They claimed that Vaishali initially showed a willingness to return home and provided a written statement affirming this. However, they alleged that their conversation was limited to just a few minutes and claimed that the local police were biased towards the young man. They further asserted that Vaishali later revoked her earlier statement and submitted a different one.

Mother Latha claimed that the Wayanad police permitted them only a brief five-minute conversation with their daughter. They alleged favoritism towards the young man, leading Vaishali to reportedly discard her initial written statement in favor of another.

Authorities stated that the matter is under investigation, and appropriate actions will be taken based on their findings.
