Kerala BJP Accuses CPI(M) in Controversial Marriage Case Involving Kumbh Mela Star's Husband
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, April 11 (NationPress) A political uproar has unfolded in Kerala surrounding the wedding of the teenage girl Monalisa Bhosle, who captured public interest after the Kumbh Mela. On Saturday, the Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused CPI-M leaders of being complicit in the incident and called for criminal proceedings.
S. Suresh, the State BJP General Secretary, claimed that this marriage is part of a broader conspiracy, questioning how a 16-year-old could be wed under the supervision of political leaders.
Suresh further alleged that the CPI-M was attempting to disguise the incident under the guise of secularism, accusing prominent party figures, including M.V. Govindan, V. Sivankutty, and A.A. Rahim, of offenses that warrant legal scrutiny.
He raised concerns about the legality of marrying a minor who had arrived from another state, suggesting that she should have been protected instead.
The situation intensified after the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes reportedly determined that the girl was underage at the time of the marriage, leading to a case being registered by the Madhya Pradesh Police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the groom, Farman Khan.
Authorities indicated that an investigation is ongoing.
The Commission's legal team has uncovered what they believe to be prima facie evidence of a conspiracy, calling for further charges under the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and for forgery.
Furthermore, BJP leader Suresh demanded accountability for those who facilitated the marriage without proper verification of documents.
The wedding took place on March 11 at a temple near Thiruvananthapuram.
Hospital records indicate that the girl was born in December 2009, confirming her status as a minor during the marriage.
The Commission has summoned both the Kerala Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar and Madhya Pradesh Police Chief S.K. Rout to appear in Delhi regarding this issue.
The CPI-M has refuted claims of orchestrating the wedding, stating that party leaders were present only after learning that the ceremony was taking place.
This case continues to incite discussions across political and legal communities, with anticipations of intensified investigations in the forthcoming days.
