New Delhi, Oct 5 (NationPress) The Vice Chairperson of NDMC, Kuljeet Singh Chahal, inaugurated a children’s marathon themed ‘Bachhe Bole! Thank You Modi Ji’ on Kartavya Path aimed at promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle, as reported by an official.
Chahal kickstarted the KidyWidy Divya Marathon 2025 in the morning, coinciding with the celebrations for the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as stated by the official.
"The NDMC embraces such fitness initiatives within its jurisdiction. An event of this nature is bound to inspire children from an early age to prioritize their health," Chahal remarked during an interview with IANS.
This event, orchestrated by KidyWidy and Divya Prayas Foundation, witnessed participation from thousands of children aged between 2 and 8 years alongside their parents.
During the event, Chahal emphasized that such marathons and cleanliness campaigns foster fitness, charity for underprivileged children, and motivate young citizens towards a healthier and cleaner India.
He pointed out that in the 119th episode of the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio show, and from the Red Fort, PM Modi urged the public to cut down on cooking oil in their diets.
“While many leaders focus on economy, politics, or national security, our Prime Minister genuinely cares about the health and well-being of each citizen,” Chahal stated.
He commended the initiative taken by KidyWidy (established by Priya Jain and Akshita Jain) and Divya Prayas Foundation (founded by Sarika Jain) for organizing this event on Kartavya Path.
Founders of KidyWidy, Priya Jain and Akshita Jain, expressed that the marathon's objective is to raise awareness among children regarding healthy eating, decreasing oil consumption, preventing obesity, and fostering a cleaner and fitter India.
In her remarks, Sarika Jain, founder of the Divya Prayas Foundation, stated, “We must raise awareness in society to tackle obesity by limiting oil usage in our daily meals.”
“As PM Modi Ji suggested, let’s all strive to reduce our oil consumption by at least 10 percent each month. Obesity is an escalating global issue — studies indicate that one in every eight individuals is affected, and its incidence has doubled in recent years,” she continued.
Jain further noted the alarming rise in childhood obesity, which has surged nearly fourfold.
“According to WHO data (2022), approximately 2.5 billion individuals globally are classified as overweight — a serious challenge that requires collective effort,” she added.
The program's goal is to motivate everyone to implement minor but consistent lifestyle changes to address this issue and contribute to a Fit and Swachh Bharat, she concluded.
