Kochi, Sep 18 (NationPress) In a significant move to bolster education in the island territory, the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), which operates under Kerala’s Department of General Education, has provided robotics kits to schools throughout the nine islands of Lakshadweep.
The goal of this initiative is to improve robotics education and offer practical experiences for Class 10 students adhering to the Kerala curriculum.
These kits are designed to engage students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through enjoyable and hands-on activities.
A total of 100 robotics kits have been distributed, ensuring that one kit is available for every three students, promoting interactive and practical learning.
In conjunction with the distribution, KITE has initiated a five-day training program for high school ICT teachers and faculty from the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Lakshadweep.
The training sessions began on Thursday at KITE’s Regional Resource Centre in Kochi. Kerala’s Minister for General Education, V. Sivankutty, inaugurated the program online, reiterating the government's dedication to closing educational disparities in the islands.
“The Kerala government is devoted to providing all necessary resources, including advanced technology, to guarantee that students in Lakshadweep receive the highest quality education,” he emphasized.
KITE CEO K. Anvar Sadath officially presented the robotics kits to representatives from schools.
The kits are tailored to support the new 'World of Robots' chapter in the Class 10 ICT textbook, enabling students to delve into concepts like circuit building, sensors, actuators, and programming for device control.
This initiative follows KITE’s recent AI training program for postgraduate educators in Lakshadweep.
Sadath also indicated that the next phase would concentrate on training teachers from primary and upper primary levels. To date, KITE has distributed 29,000 robotics kits across Kerala, with provisions for schools needing additional kits to acquire them directly.
Beginning this year, robotics has been incorporated as a subject in the ICT curriculum for over four lakh Class 10 students in Kerala.
The newly supplied kits utilize an ESP32 Devkit v1 microcontroller.
