Was the Kolkata warehouse fire a result of corruption?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 31 (NationPress) The catastrophic fire that engulfed the Wow Momo factory-warehouse located in Anandapur, on Kolkata's southern fringe, earlier this week, resulting in the tragic loss of 25 lives, was not merely an accident but a manifestation of rampant corruption within the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal administration, stated Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday afternoon.
During a large rally and BJP workers’ conference held in Barrackpore, South 24 Parganas district, Shah asserted that the proprietor of Wow Momo remains unarrested due to his connections with influential figures.
“The Anandapur fire was not an accident. With 25 fatalities and 27 individuals still unaccounted for, we must question the circumstances. Who are the owner’s close associates? Who funded this venture? Why has he not faced arrest? Would Mamata Banerjee have reacted identically if the deceased were infiltrators? Engaging in politics over this is disgraceful,” he remarked.
He further promised that should the BJP gain power in West Bengal following the upcoming Assembly elections, a thorough investigation will ensue, ensuring that those accountable for this tragedy will face justice.
Shah pointed out that the increasing support for the BJP in recent elections suggests a strong chance of the party winning in West Bengal by 2026.
“In the 2021 state elections, the BJP emerged as the primary opposition, securing victories in 77 constituencies, with Suvendu Adhikari taking on the role of Opposition Leader.
“In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, we garnered 39% of the total votes. This time, our target is to elevate that to 45%,” he added.
He also commented on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s aspirations for her nephew to succeed her, suggesting she is under an 'optical delusion'.
“Once that dream collapses, the delusion will dissipate,” Shah stated.
Additionally, he reassured voters from the Matua Community regarding their voting rights, countering Banerjee's misleading claims about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process potentially affecting their names on the voters’ list. “I assure you that not a single Matua voter will be disenfranchised,” he affirmed.
Shah insisted that despite any actions from Banerjee or her party, the SIR process will persist, ensuring transparent voting with an accurate voters’ list.
