Bengaluru, Oct 8 (NationPress) - Bhaskar Rao, a Karnataka BJP leader and former Bengaluru Police Commissioner, issued an apology on Wednesday for commending advocate Rakesh Kishore following his attempt to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai in the Supreme Court.
In a post on social media platform X, Bhaskar Rao expressed, "I was taken aback and shocked that a person of such high education, age, and experience would engage in such an act, fully aware of the severe legal repercussions of such a misconduct.
"I have not disrespected the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice, or any community. I apologize if my tweet has caused anger or hurt," he added.
Regarding a media report about the Bar Council of India's suspension of Rakesh Kishore for the shoe-throwing incident, Bhaskar Rao had previously commented on X, "Even though it is legally and morally wrong, I admire your courage at your age to stand firm and face the consequences of your actions."
Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar condemned the shoe-throwing on Wednesday, stating, "This incident is unacceptable and must be denounced, especially in a setting dedicated to justice. The offender should face strict consequences."
Responding to queries about the incident in the Supreme Court, he remarked, "Even though the Chief Justice has indicated no action is necessary against the perpetrator, a suo motu case should be initiated, and appropriate actions should follow."
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara firmly criticized the attack on Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
Parameshwara stated, "Such an act, especially under the guise of comments on Sanatan Dharma, is deeply reprehensible. It is important to note that CJI Gavai, hailing from the Dalit community, has achieved a remarkable position."
"The Chief Justice embodies his community, and if he is subjected to violence, it is vital for the entire nation to respond with seriousness. I urge Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, and others in power to prevent such incidents from happening again and to ensure legal consequences are enforced," he emphasized.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remarked on Tuesday, "The Chief Justice of India has shown his greatness by forgiving the incident. Nonetheless, I strongly denounce this act, which is indicative of Manuvadi elements."
