Bengaluru, Oct 8 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have initiated an FIR against advocate Rakesh Kishore on Wednesday due to his attempt to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai within the Supreme Court. This action follows a complaint lodged by Bhaktavachala, the President of the All India Advocates' Association.
The Vidhana Soudha police in Bengaluru have registered a Zero FIR against the 71-year-old lawyer under Sections 132 and 133 of the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS), which include charges of assault and using criminal force to prevent a public servant from performing their duties, as well as dishonoring a person.
A Zero FIR is one that can be filed at any police station, irrespective of the crime's location or the jurisdiction of that police station. Sources indicate that the case will be forwarded to the relevant police authority in New Delhi.
The FIR alleges that on October 6, advocate Rakesh Kishore committed an offence by throwing a shoe towards the dais in Court Hall No. 1 of the Supreme Court of India, located in New Delhi.
At that moment, CJI B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran were present in the courtroom. The complainant has urged for a case to be filed against the accused to protect the dignity and integrity of the judiciary.
In response to the attack on CJI B.R. Gavai, lawyers organized a silent protest outside the State High Court. They demanded the immediate arrest of Rakesh Kishore, emphasizing that this incident is a significant threat to the independence of the judiciary and calling for a thorough investigation.
Additionally, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a judicial inquiry and prompt action regarding the blatant casteist attack made in the name of ‘Sanatan’ against the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India.
Reacting to the incident, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the act, stating that it is utterly unacceptable to throw objects at judges under the guise of religion.
